Help & common questions
Clear answers about how Clade stores your records, handles notifications, and what to do if something goes wrong.
What Clade is
Clade is a local-first reptile husbandry app. It helps keepers track reptile profiles, feeding logs, weights, sheds, reminders, photos, and care history in one place.
How local data storage works
Your records and your local Clade account credentials are stored on your device. Clade does not maintain a cloud copy of your husbandry data in its current version. This keeps your records private to you and available offline.
What happens if the phone is lost
Because records are stored locally, losing or resetting your device without a backup will result in those records being lost. If your device platform offers an encrypted device backup, Clade data may be included in that backup. Clade itself does not provide cloud backup or sync.
How recovery codes work
Your recovery code lets you reset the password of your local Clade account on the same device if you forget it. It is not a cloud backup and cannot restore records on a different or lost device.
Keep your recovery code somewhere safe and offline. You can generate a replacement at any time in Settings > Recovery code; the new code replaces the old one.
How notifications work
Reminders you create in Clade are delivered through local notifications on your device. They are scheduled by the app and do not require an internet connection. You can adjust notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
How delete account works
Your Clade account is local to your device. Deleting it from inside the app removes the local account and the records stored with it on that device. Uninstalling Clade also removes its local data. Because there is no cloud copy, deleted records cannot be recovered by us.
Signing up for Android updates on this website is separate from the app. To have that email removed, contact privacy@cladekeeper.com.

Animal health note
Clade helps you keep records, but it is not a substitute for professional veterinary care. If you are worried about your animal's health, including changes in appetite, shedding, weight, behavior, or signs of illness or injury, contact a qualified reptile veterinarian.
